History of Modern-day Doctor House Calls

At the start of 1970’s, doctors began seeing many patients daily, having the patients come to their clinics instead of doctors going around the neighborhood, checking on one patient at one place and time. This way, doctors are given more time in actually treating the patients rather than in travelling from one village to another. This practice has also reduced government’s expenses in doctor transportation costs.

In spite of hospitals’ popularity, doctor house calls history doesn’t end there. The need for doctor house calls, as always, has still been present. Majority of people have gone to the hospitals and clinics for their medical needs while the few who needed special medical attention still benefited from house calls.

At the start of the 21st century however, doctor house calls have begun to revive its popularity. Journal of the American Medical Association reported that medical house calls have increased by 40% among Medicare beneficiaries percent from 1998 to 2004.
